The Destroying Angel

In a tiny log cabin nestled in Gayle's Holler amid the rugged Appalachian Mountains of 1901, nineteen-year-old Dulcie Donahue struggles through her first childbirth.  Her husband, Floyd, has disappeared, and she fears that she will die in labor, leaving behind a helpless baby, just as her mother left Dulcie.

Dulcie’s life has been shaped by abandonment, and the temptation to give up beckons. Haunted by her past, she turns inward to her memories to choose her path forward.

My new novel, The Destroying Angel, examines the impact of loss and isolation on the human spirit and explores how strength, humor and imagination can see us through the darkest times.

Patrick effectively captures the oppressiveness of the hot Georgia summer (shades of Tennessee Williams) and the insular southern community.  Readers will enjoy the clash of personal dilemmas and small-town culture.

Praise for The Night She Died

A remarkable achievement…. A compelling story, told in a compelling style, it elevates a small town murder to a study of those dilemmas that connect with everyone who struggles to survive harsh personal experiences. Ms. Patrick deserves the praise readers will heap on this work.

Terry Kay
To Dance with the White Dog

Luminous….Readers of fellow Southerners Carson McCullers and Pat Conroy will revel in the sensuality and foreboding of Patrick’s gracefully rendered scenes.
